The amount of the grant awarded for the programme component SM06-GEO-PC7 is
803 692 018 HUF

The project was supported by the Swiss Contribution with the national co-financing of the Hungarian Government.

Project objectives and description

The main goal of the programme component (tender) is to further improve the greening, efficiency and sustainability of district heating services provided by Budapest Public Utilities Ltd. by integrating geothermal energy into district heating.

Within the framework of the project, by Budapest Public Utilities Ltd. will increase the utilisation of the geothermal well previously established at the Fehér Street site of BKV Railway Vehicle Repair and Service Ltd. by connecting the geothermal energy source to the district heating district of Zugló.

The reduced emissions of air pollutants will improve the air quality of the affected area, and the greenhouse gas emissions avoided will contribute to global climate protection. The integration of geothermal energy into the district heating will provide broad access to renewable energy, contributing to sustainable economic growth.

The following main professional activities will be developed under the programme component:

·         Design and construction of the district heating network;

·         Design and construction of the thermal water heat exchanger;

·         Implementation of the control system;

·         Implementation of the connection to the heat supply system of the well site.

The result of the developments

Increase in geothermal energy production as a result of the activity compared to the baseline before the start of the activity: 31 898 GJ/year.
